| Data Center 2.0 | IT | Most IT organizations entered the world of virtualization between 2007 and 2009; we call this data center 1.0. Many organizations started with server virtualization and loved the benefits. The way in which we architect, deploy and manage our data centers was forever changed and most would say for the better. In the first implementation of virtualization, underutilized servers were consolidated so IT organizations shrunk the physical footprint of the data center, lowered environmental costs and increased reliability. New hardware and software capabilities allow for the next generation data center to be further virtualized; we call this data center 2.0. In data center 2.0 we see Tier 1 applications being virtualized and the data center further consolidated. Northwood-Kensett Junior Senior High School in Northwood, Iowa is the first school in the nation to be mapped with this new method.
